Challenge

Maypop faced a common challenge many small businesses encounter: employees were moving into new roles within the company while still carrying responsibilities from their previous positions.

As such, top-level team members became overburdened with tasks, and growth opportunities for others were limited. To address this, Maypop needed a clear realignment of roles and responsibilities as well as removal of any bottlenecks so employees could focus on their current roles and the company’s strategic goals. Through a

top-down role realignment, Maypop worked to ensure balanced workloads and create clearly defined growth trajectories for each team member.

Solution

To tackle the challenge of team members transitioning previous responsibilities into their new positions, Maypop needed a third-party partner to help with a thoughtful role realignment.

Maypop connected with Patterson Consulting Group (PCG), and together, they began outlining every task and responsibility, carefully balancing the work to align with each team member’s interests and growth goals. Through this detailed assessment, they removed outdated responsibilities and reassigned tasks to create a healthier workload. Individual team members are now confident in the tasks they own and inspired to take on more where they can.

Outcome

Maypop and PCG implemented a structured plan that clearly defined responsibilities and roles to ensure team members were guided toward sustained productivity and a fulfilling work environment. This plan provided time for one-on-one training and mentoring to build new skills in the future.

Team members have quickly taken ownership of their new duties, easing the transition. Weekly tasks and customer engagement goals were mapped out clearly so every team member knows their role in supporting Maypop’s growth. This alignment has led to increased confidence and trust, greater job satisfaction, and a focused, more efficient team.

Overall, the team’s coordination—whether playing a part in marketing, social media storytelling, or in-person customer care—has contributed to an impressive 30% sales increase year-over-year in the first month following the re-alignment, and engagement metrics on Maypop’s social platforms have spiked 5-6 times above previous levels.
